80s Tv Insipres A Generation

A-Team Classic 80s Tv

A-Team Classic 80s Tv

80’s TV shows are synonymous with hotrod cars and crazy hairstyles. Take the A Team for instance; Mr. T’s Mohawk was considered “Rad” or radical by the youth of the eighties.

This hairstyle inspired many of the “punk-rock” hairstyles of that generation. 80’S TV shows inspired a generation of “pop-culture”. That continued to move into the 90’s and eventually led to today’s pop culture. The sixties came back in the nineties and now the 80’s are making a comeback.

David Hasselhoff In Knight Rider

How so? Look at the style of sunglasses that appears in most 80’s TV shows. Now compare them to the ones we sport today. Remember that song by Cory Hart, “Sunglasses at Night”. A classic 80’s hit that is still inspiring fashion, or lack thereof, today. Then there are the “hotrod” cars such as the one driven by Michael Knight, also known as David Hasselhoff, which inspired many car enthusiasts, to build the types of vehicles that have On Star and key-less engine starts that are available today. The imaginative production of these 80’s TV shows help to inspire technology through its far fetched (for the times) cars, super computers, communication devices, and so much more.

Another 80’s TV show that made a comeback recently was Dukes of Hazard. It was highly popular in the 80’s and has since been turned into a box office hit with the help of stars such as Willie Nelson and of course Daisy (Jessica Simpson) in her “daisy dukes”. Even pop songs have been inspired due to those 80’s “daisy dukes”. Katy Perry sings about them in her latest single, “California Gurls”. To think that one 80’s hit show could implement so many things to come was unfathomable to say the least.

80’s talk show, The Phil Donahue show, kicked off an exploding list of talk shows like, Oprah, Jenny Jones, and yes even Jerry Springer. This is just another prime example of how 80’s TV shows shaped our viewing pleasures today.

When looking back at 80’s TV shows we see just how far we have come, take for instance the 80’s TV dating show “Perfect Match” shows such as this sparked shows like The Bachelor, Third Wheel, and many more that are being viewed today.

80s Tv Tough Guy MacGyver

MacGyver was another infamous 80’s TV show that took the viewer on an adventure while implying that a paperclip, rubber band and simple easy to find items could be used to get out of any situation. The secret agent in this 80’s TV show took resourcefulness to a whole new level.

Experiencing 80’s TV now would seem like something from the dark ages. In retrospect if not for the above listed shows, where would our viewing pleasures be today? The 80’s shows were a platform for advancements in the entertainment industry, and rightfully so.

Unknowingly, 80’s shows propelled TV into a new era, started several pop culture movements, and in the end they inspired writers imaginations, and directors to go in a direction not yet seen. All in all the 80’s was a benchmark in TV viewing history.

80′s Characters Cartoon & Kids

80s Characters – Some Cartoon & Kids Tv Shows From The 80′s

You might be a girl or boy that grew up in the 80’s if you remember cartoons such as Rainbow Brite, Care Bears and Strawberry Shortcake. These cartoon TV shows and many more helped shape the imaginations of many of the girls that grew up during the 80’s.

Rainbow Brite - 80s Characters

Rainbow Brite - 80s Cartoon Characters

Rainbow Brite was a cartoon by DIC Productions that was released in 1984 and syndicated in 1985. Rainbow Brite and the Color Kids fight to protect the world’s color from the evil Murky Dismal and his incompetent sidekick, Lurky. Rainbow Brite, whose real name is Wisp, has a talking horse named Starlight. The color sprites mine color crystals, which Rainbow uses to add color to the world. Twink is the head sprite who often accompanies Rainbow on her adventures.

Care Bears Characters - 10 Original

Care Bears Characters - 10 Original

Care Bears was a cartoon syndicated by DIC productions from 1985 to 1986. The Care Bears live in a cloud city named Care-A-Lot. From there, they monitor the world for bad feelings. Whenever something bad is sensed by the Care-O-Meter, they race down to earth in their Cloudmobiles and Rainbow Rollers to help. They meet to discuss important matters in the Hall of Caring, led by Tenderheart Bear. The Care Bear Cousins are similar to the Care Bears, except that they are different animals and they live in the Forest of Feelings, led by Braveheart Lion. The symbols on each of their tummies have special powers. When they unite, they can use the Care Bear Stare to send good feelings to someone or to defeat evil. Some villains they have faced are No Heart, Professor Cold Heart, Shrieky, and Beastly. The Care Bears Family combined old episodes of Care Bears with new ones.

In 1980, the first of six annual Strawberry Shortcake TV specials aired, firmly embedding the Strawberry Shortcake in the minds and hearts of eighties little girls everywhere.

These were just a few shows that shaped the imagination of little girls growing up in the 80’s. These cartoon TV shows had the attention of girls all across America. If you grew up in the 80’s and were asked to discuss a cartoon TV show from that time period, what would it be? If you are female it would probably fall under one of the above mentioned cartoon TV shows.

These cartoon TV shows covered topics such as feelings, good and evil, right and wrong, and senses such as smell, sight (colors), and sound (catchy theme songs). These shows not cartoon TV shows not only shaped children’s imaginations, it shaped their senses, morals, and values.

The impact of these cartoon TV shows on children has yet to be studied. That does not mean that the impact does not exist. The reality is, that the type of cartoons shows from the 80’s, are not like those that we see today. The 80’s cartoons focused more of appropriate viewing for young children, shows that did not have mature content. There wasn’t TV ratings in the corner to let the viewer know the specific age appropriate, like today, instead all cartoon TV shows were age appropriate.

Classic Comedy 80s TV Shows

When you think of comedy shows from the 80’s you might think of Laverne and Shirley.

Laverne & Shirley

Laverne & Shirley

Laverne and Shirley was a spin-off of Happy Days. The show was set in the late 1950’ is Milwaukee Wisconsin. The show featured roommates (two single girls) Laverne Fazio and Shirley Feeney. The girls were originally the girlfriends of Fonze and Ritchie both from “Happy Days”. In the sitcom the girls both worked as bottle cappers in Shotz Brewery. When the show decided to move the girls to California in 1980,(this move was in part due to Laverne & Shirley being replaced at the brewery by an automated bottlecap machine) they moved to Burbank, California to start over , Lenny and Squiggy followed them along with Frank, Edna and Carmine. New series characters included, apartment building manager, Sonny St. Jacques and neighbor, model Rhonda Lee.

Robin Williams and Pam Dawber as Mork and Mindy
Mork & Mindy  -  My Personal Favourite

Again, you could think of the comedy Mork and Mindy. The show starred Robin Williams as Mork. Mork and Mindy was a comedy sci-fi show. Mork was from the planet Ork, and was hatched from an egg. He was sent to report about life on earth to his bosses on Ork. The show was an instant hit with viewers and helped propel Robin Williams’s acting career.

Another 80’s comedy show from that era was Different Strokes featuring the late Gary Colman as an African American child (and his brother) adopted by a well off, widowed, millionaire white man. Arnold (Gary Colman) got into plenty of trouble with his on screen brother Willis, and onscreen sister Kimberly.

Night Court was yet another great 80’s comedy show. Night court featured Judge Harold T. Stone presiding over a New York Manhattan Night Court which deals with petty and sometimes bizarre crimes. Night Court also featured, other characters who worked in Night Court like: Selma she was the chain-smoking matron; Bull, the intelligent yet naive, bald, six- foot-eight, bailiff; The unscrupulous Asst. D.A. Dan Fielding; Mac, the sensible court clerk; and Christine, the attractive defense attorney.

Last but not least, who could forget the 80’s comedy show “Married With Children”? The raw comedy featured in this sitcom most likely sparked the FCC into action. It featured a shoe salesman father that always had his hands down his pants, a geeky son with no ambition, a tramp for a daughter that cared more about being with boys then getting an education (and it showed). Christina Applegate played the tramp daughter Kelly. She was a blonde bimbo with nothing going for her but her looks. It also featured a mother that wore high-heels and spandex, chain smoked, and always took money from the father. Then there was “Buck” the family dog. Even the dog knew this family put the FUN in Family DysFUNction. By the end of the 80’s comedy shows had become outright inappropriate for young viewers. They appealed to the pre-teen and teenagers of the 80’s pop culture movement. Taking real life scenarios (even those people tried hiding in the family closet) and casting them out into TV land for all the world to enjoy.

Dallas Tv Show

The Dallas TV series is best-known for its character J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman), the greedy, scheming, oil magnate.

The original cast of Dallas. Clockwise from to...

Dallas Cast - The Original Cast

One of the most famous television show events ever happened was at the end of the 1979-80 Dallas season, when an unknown intruder shot J.R. in the chest while he was working late at his office. “Who Shot J.R.?” was a phrase that captivated the world. Odds on the shooter’s identity were calculated, and saw active wagering. Turned out it was Kristin, J.R.’s scorned (you know what they say about a woman scorned) sister-in-law and once romantic interest.

Was almost compulsory viewing by many adults of the era. Big question was.. Would they let their children watch it? Call me lucky … call me unlucky if you want but I watched it on a near weekly basis curled up on the couch next to my parents.
